Talks and Workshops: About Us

Longarm Talk and Trunkshow

In this 1 hour lecture I talk about my journey into quilting and longarm quilting and the things I've learnt along the way. I show lots of examples of quilts I've made and talk about the different processes used including English Paper Piecing, Foundation Paper Piecing, Machine Piecing and am happy to questions both during and after the talk.

Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing

Learn the basic techniques used in FPP (Foundation Paper Piecing) using my String Star Quilt pattern. Practice making the different sections used to create the star block, which can then be turned into a cushion or mini quilt - for the adventurous you can carry on until you have enough for a quilt.

Fussy Cutting for EPP and beyond

Learn the concept of fussy cutting - the intentional cutting of a specific part of a fabric to highlight a motif or section of design. This versatile technique is simple to use but can elevate a project by making it look more complicated than it is due to clever use of fabric placement. Areas covered are using stripes, the kaleidoscope effect, centralising an image and pattern matching.

This piece of work was featured in issue 83 of Today's Quilter.

Talks and Workshops: Ideas & Inspiration

Free Motion Quilting

Perfect for beginners and intermediates who perhaps want to brush up on their skills. Starting with setting up the machine (participants will need to bring their machine manuals and ensure they have the correct foot for the technique) and working through several basic designs used for FMQ, we then move on to more complicated designs giving the perfect opportunity to create something unique.
This workshop is very versatile and can easily be tailored to suite the needs and abilities of those in the group.

English Paper Piecing

During this workshop you'll be introduced to the traditional patchwork technique of English Paper Piecing - shaping fabric around a paper template and hand stitching them together to create beautiful projects. This workshop uses hexagons and half hexagons to create flower like shapes that can then be joined together to make a cushion front, mini quilt, bag panel or whole quilt.
A fun, relaxing and sociable method of patchwork that can be taken anywhere.
